Banners and Boxes

There seems to be Banner theme going on in my house at the moment - after my recent round of card classes all featuring Banners! This is just such a great way to use up small strips of paper on your cards.  Often when I am cutting out paper or card I am left with a narrow piece that has been cut off.... so now I have a separate box containing just these strips. They can be used for quite a few different papercraft techniques, and here's my favourite one.

All that is needed is to take a length of bakers twine or linen thread (I used approx 23cm); and then fold the paper strips in half, wrapping the linen thread inside as you go. If you want them evenly spaced, use some grid paper and place your thread straight on the measuring lines, you can then add the strips with 1cm gaps in between. The grid paper is also perfect as a surface for stamping onto your card, and not ruining your best table! To keep the strips in place, I used some SNAIL adhesive down the whole strip before folding over the thread.  I stamped the sentiment on the white card first, so that I could lay the banner across without overlapping the message.

Once you have enough length of banner, attach the two ends of the thread to the back of the white card layer using some SNAIL or sellotape. I then trimmed the ends of each paper strip into points, a curve or a flag-end.  You can then layer the white card onto a backing card, or place it straight onto your base card.  Very simple and very quick.

If you have the strips to hand... make half a dozen of these cards at the same time with different sentiments. Great to have in stock for all occasions.  I made one this week for a 5 year old, using just our BRIGHT colour designer paper - it looked really cheerful.  The sentiment stamp set I used was 'Sassy Salutations' one of my most used stamps sets since the new catalogue.

To match the card, we also made some boxes in class. These are really easy boxes to make, especially if you have a Simply Scored Board.
I have made a sheet of PDF instructions with photos.

The Grid paper is available to order at £9.95 for 100 thick paper sheets, it's approx A3 in size and has centimetres on one side, and inches on the reverse. So you get twice as much use if you use up both sides. Also great for school projects and planning/design.
I use the wood mount cases to store my strips in. They are £6.25 for 4 full sized ones.
